I’m writing a children’s picture book and have now reached the point where I need to pick an illustrator. Many different book illustration companies provide various services in terms of their style, pricing system, and policy about revisions; thus, I’m wondering how to choose the right one at all. What are the criteria for comparing illustrators in terms of character consistency, page layout, color palette, revisions, and ownership of the final product? Moreover, I wonder which one is preferred by the authors – an illustrator or a company.
