The annoying part about finding cheap storage here is that the headline price almost never matches what you actually pay once you read the fine print. I have been comparing a bunch of options recently because we are downsizing for a few months, and I did not want to get stuck with a long contract for a unit that is only open during office hours.
First thing I learned, "decent" for me means boring stuff: clean building, no weird damp smell, reasonable access, and no surprise fees. A lot of the cheap quotes start looking less cheap once you add admin charges, lock purchases, insurance, and deposit rules. I also saw a few places that push a minimum term, so the monthly rate is only valid if you commit longer.
I started by checking classifieds and people subletting space, mainly on Dubizzle. You can find good deals there, but it is a mixed bag. Some listings are basically someone offering half a room in a shared flat, which is fine if you trust them, but not great if you need proper access or receipts for work stuff. Also, a few were "cheap" but only if you can move everything in on their schedule.
For actual storage facilities, I ended up using storage Dubai as a starting point just to compare what is out there and then I called and asked the annoying questions up front.
Stuff I ask every time:
* Is the quoted rate all-in, or are there extras (insurance, VAT, admin)?
* Access hours, and do they charge if you come late?
* Any promo rate that jumps after the first month?
* Pest control, humidity, and how often they clean the corridors
My current take: the cheapest decent option is the one that stays cheap after the first invoice and lets you access your things without drama. If they dodge simple questions, I move on.
